She’s not just a good writer, she’s smart too!
Okay, maybe my jokes could use some work, but I am completely serious when I say that I have decided to offer my services as a Baby Planner/Maternity Consultant.
“Wait, but isn’t your whole blog about how you don’t know what you’re doing?”
Yes, it is. But here’s the thing, while I am flying by the seat of my pants trying to figure out how to raise my own daughter, I’ve been able to learn a lot about the different child rearing methods. From cry it out to no cry sleep solutions and from traditional food introduction (cereal in a bottle, anyone?) to baby led weaning, I’ve realized I’ve learned a lot. So why not spread the wealth.
“That’s nice and all, but what other experience do you have besides reading books?”
Fair question. And I’d be happy to tell you. First, I’ve been through the experiences myself: trying to conceive, miscarriage, pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. At each one of these stages, I took it upon myself to learn as much as I could. I researched on my own, I spoke with doctors, nurses, doulas, you name it. I absorbed a lot of info.
If you’re looking for something more solid for my resume, I can provide that too. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor’s of Science in Pre-Medical Biology and a minor in Psychology; the plan was to go to medical school to become a neonatologist, or newborn specialist. Throughout my senior year, I volunteered at Winnie Palmer Hospital and shadowed OBGYNs there and at another Florida-based hospital. It was during that time I was able to observe multiple C-Sections and a few vaginal deliveries. My first job post college was in a Pediatric Office where I subbed for the medical assistant in her absence and provided administrative support the rest of the time. In that role, I learned about normal child development and well-child visits. I’ve also completed graduate coursework in human lifespan development (including childhood development), before deciding to take my career in a different direction. After giving birth to my daughter, my interest in the aforementioned topics was sparked once more and I researched how I could best be of service to expecting and new moms (and those trying to conceive). What better way then to be a Virtual Baby Planner!
